Old Fashion Twist

Here is an awesome bit of fashion I found on another blog I was reading.( MESH) The artist Yinka Shonibare has decided to take a spin on his usual African inspired artwork. He has taken traditional African fabrics to make Victorian costumes. The artwork will be displayed in the Brooklyn Museum until September 20th, and proves to be a must see if you’re in the area.

Making something out of .... everything! cont.

Just found this picture... just seems so appropriate!

Making something out of .... everything! heheh

So, for my latest project, I have been trying to find ways of re-using the multitude of clothing that seems to accumulate when you love to vintage shop ;-) I have decided to use our (mine and my fiance's) old sweaters to make soft pillow covers then use the leftover pieces of sweaters to make sweater quilts. My new thing has been to make quilts mostly because you can make quilts out of almost anything. For example, this may seem strange to some people but, my fiance: Tim has been cleaning out his closet and threw out 20 pair of old boxers. So...I took those old boxers and am in the midst of making them into a quilt! hahaha I mean they were just so soft after having been worn for so long! I didn't just want to throw them out. Don't worry I have washed them well and am only using the good parts. I'll post pictures when I'm closer to having something done. ;-)

Sweater Quilt

Here is a cool idea for a quilt I found. I couldn't find the picture of the original quilt that I found at Anthropologie so here is one that is similar. The original quilt that I found was  much cooler because instead of cutting all the pieces  into right angles, it kept the shape of the sleeve and pockets and buttons and zippers. It was pretty cool. ;-) Defiantly a quilt I will make soon.

Rainbow colored quilting inspiration

People have been giving me tons of great scraps and I've been trying to find cool things to do with them. Here are a few pictures of inspiration I found.

This is the realization of a design I made in college for "Mrs. Peacock"
